Available on web, iOS, and Android – one app, every device.

Who is Chicome?

The name Chicome is drawn from Chicomecoatl — the Aztec goddess of nourishment, sustenance, and the harvest. Her name in Nahuatl means Seven Serpent, and she was revered as the deity who presided over corn, food, and the cycles of planting and growth that kept her people fed and thriving.

Chicomecoatl represented more than agriculture — she embodied the idea that food is foundational. That nourishing yourself and your community is sacred work.

That spirit is exactly what Chicome's Kitchen is built around. Not obsessive calorie counting or rigid diet plans, but a genuine, intelligent approach to understanding what you eat and fueling your life well. The goddess fed a civilization. We're just trying to help you eat better.

Who's building it?

Hi, I'm Johnathan Sluder — a solo developer building Chicome's Kitchen from the ground up, and the person who needed it most before it ever existed.

On September 10th, 2024, I had gastric bypass surgery. It changed my life, but it also changed my relationship with food in ways I wasn't fully prepared for. Most recipe blogs, cookbooks, and nutrition apps aren't designed with post-bariatric dietary needs in mind. Portion sizes are wrong, macros don't fit, and ingredients that work for most people simply don't work for me.

I started working with AI to help me create and adapt recipes that actually fit my needs — and it worked. But I quickly realized that the AI could do so much more if it knew what ingredients I already had on hand. That one insight sent me down a rabbit hole.

I looked at pantry tracking apps. Meal planning apps. Nutrition trackers. Recipe managers. There are decent options for each of these things individually — but nothing that brings them all together. And none of them are using AI in any meaningful way.

That gap is where Chicome's Kitchen was born. One unified app, powered by AI, that knows your pantry, understands your dietary needs, and actually helps you eat well — whatever that looks like for you.

This blog is where I'll share progress updates, behind-the-scenes development notes, and early previews as the app comes to life.
